Hubtel Webstore – A Free E-commerce Platform For Businesses

If you operate a brick and mortar business, your next smart move will be to move your store online.

Many businesses lose out on potential sales because they do not have an online presence. As human interactions go digital, so are competitive businesses reaching customers online. Having an online presence reduces the number of physical locations businesses need to serve customers and opens a wider customer base to the business at the same time. Imagine setting up a business in Accra and getting orders from all over the country. A good webstore or e-commerce website makes this possible.

Enter, the Hubtel Webstore – built to offer businesses an online storefront for customers to transact with them.

How The New MTN Payment Approval Works

June 13, 2018 | 1 minute read
Share:

Goodbye Mobile Money Fraud ?

As part of efforts to improve the security of Mobile Money payments, MTN has introduced a new way for customers to approve transactions. Starting Monday 6th August, 2018.

Customers will no longer receive prompts to enter their PIN to confirm transactions. Instead, they will have to approve the transaction themselves on their phone.

All other services which require debits on a customer’s wallet will have to go through the approval process before it can be completed.

This move is meant to help reduce the number of fraud activities that occurs regularly on Mobile Money. If this goes well, we may see a new form of added security on Mobile Money transactions. It will mean that customers will have to “intentionally approve” payment requests from a vendor or third party.

Here’s how to approve a payment request:

  1. Dial *170# and select Option 10, My Wallet.
  2. Select Option 2 for My Approvals.
  3. Enter PIN to get your Pending Approval List.
  4. Select pending transaction to approve.
  5. Select Option 1 YES to approve the transaction OR Option 2 NO to reject the transaction

Customer receives an SMS as confirmation for a successful transaction.

Over the last few years, banks and other large companies have deployed their USSD applications at great cost due to the engineering effort and equipment required. Until very recently, individuals and small organizations could never even dream of building their own USSD apps.

But now, something truly incredible has happened, with the end result being that:

  • It’s suddenly very easy for developers to build USSD apps
  • The utility of USSD has exceeded use cases far beyond what its designers originally imagined

In order for us to understand the incredibly unlikely sequence of events that took place to cause this, we must go all the way back, to the beginning of the mobile revolution.

April 16, 2018 | 2 minutes read
Share:

What a special day. The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia paid a working visit to our head office in Kokomlemle, Accra on Monday, March 26.

Our Chief Executive Officer, Alex Adjei Bram, took Dr. Bawumia through the services of the firm after a familiarization tour of the office.

In his conversation with the Vice President, Alex Bram explained that Hubtel’s solutions are designed to enhance merchants’ businesses by offering a single platform where payments, customer engagement, and loyalty are managed. He continued that “We basically started this company with GHC15 but today we have branches in Ghana and Kenya. Our first product was bulk SMS which helped to enhance the communication system of businesses.” Alex Bram also talked about ongoing work with the Ghana Police Service and the company’s newly launched Pledge to donate 1% of its products and profits to worthy causes.

Dr. Bawumia was impressed by the youthfulness of the team at Hubtel. He lauded the firm and assured management of government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for indigenous IT firms to thrive. He said, “We are happy there is so much talent in Ghana. We as a government want to create the environment for businesses to thrive in education, revenue collection, data management, and more. We want to encourage and support you.”

We are honored to have been among the technology companies selected. We are humbled and remain committed to doing our part to support businesses of all sizes and ensure technology plays a useful part in improving customer service across the country.
